Meet the Artist

Sapna Kuniyal

BFA(2020) and MVA(2022): Specialized in painting from Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun. My paintings focus on farming practices in Uttarakhand, highlighting the socio-cultural aspects. I use farming tools as symbols to represent the strength and resilience of the hill people. My connection to this subject comes from my grandparents who relied on farming. Despite the younger generation abandoning farming, the older generation remains emotionally attached to their land and traditional tools. I capture this emotional bond using jute fabric as canvas and integrating found objects. The connection between the people of Uttarakhand and their land is a major inspiration for my work.
