I grew up in Kolkata in an environment where drawing and painting were an important part of my life. As I also enjoyed studying science and maths, I got a degree in Physics in college. After working a few years in IT, I couldn’t let go of the painting bug, and decided to pursue painting seriously, full time. My passion became my profession.
In my journey I have been fortunate to have had Sri Ashok Bhowmick as mentor.
Initially, I started with oil painting, creating realistic figures and scenes. With time, my work evolved to slightly abstract, figurative painting using acrylic on canvas. To start with, I use spontaneous gestural brushstrokes instead of drawing. From there I find my subject within those strokes and develop it towards a vision. The focus is on forms, colour and the overall story rather than a detailed subject. In my paintings I use a limited harmonious colour palette. I try to tell the story of the beauty of life, of people and their engagement with the environment. I like my paintings to exude a sense of contentment and happiness, and hope they create such a feeling in the homes they hang in.
I have participated in numerous group shows in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Dubai and London and solo exhibitions in Delhi and Ahmedabad.
Currently I’m based in Gurgaon.
